landscape architecture + ecological design

The Stowe Center Hartford  Connecticut  USA

Gardens may seem non-essential to our existence and yet there is robust evidence that both the physical presence of a garden as well as the work of gardening is a powerful need - as well as a balm. Harriet Beecher Stowe was a home-gardener and today the gardens reflect her love of flowers and plants of all kinds.

.

Outside Landscape Architecture LLC has been awarded the commission to create gardens on this 2.5-acre property to create an educational, sustainable landscape that tells the story of the land and the people who lived there. The gardens will serve as public space and also include a strong ecological framework as habitat for birds, bees, and other wildlife.

In progress now, the design will include lightly-managed landscape solutions that emphasize native and adapted plants, nature-based solutions and sustainable gardening methods that will translate into better overall health for the immediate and visitor community.
