Wild Meadow Farmington  Connecticut  USA

The owners of this beautiful lakeside property had a vision to create a pollinator garden in their backyard, a vision to remove the steepest portions of the existing lawn and transform these into meadows and naturalized areas to benefit insects and bird habitat. They began by halting mowing in these areas and then determined they would like a more robust and visually diverse area with more variety and seasonal interest. Thus far, 2100 square feet of lawn have been converted to a mix of native cool and warm-season grasses + perennials, from a monoculture of one type of lawn grass to a biodiverse habitat exceeding forty species. New plants include:
